CNC Machined Mounting Accessories from Telescopes and Astronomy.
Blair Lade, of the Astronomical Society of South Australia, first pointed out the problems with many commercially designed Dovetails and Attachments. Blair has been the societies equipment officer for the past number of years.
With the help of an experienced engineer and machinist, a number of components for various popular model Mounts were developed. "Components have been designed and engineered for rigidity and strength.
The use of sound mechanical principles results in repetitive mating of
components without damaging dovetail faces, thereby maintaining greater
accuracy over their life". The systems are designed to replace the current systems which accompany many popular mounts. "It was Blair who
showed me the setup he had at the time. The setup had ball end thumbscrews biting
into the Dovetail. This caused peening/denting to the Dovetail faces to the point where they would not mate accurately, unless a metal file was used,
to dress flat the facings."
The Side By Side setup is generally used for camera work where stability
is paramount. The configuration is generally setup and dismantled each night or each
time it's used. Once aligned the user would expect to setup each time without
realignment.
This is where the design came from, the recesses in the dovetail faces
where the thumbscrews bite, the special brass insert thumbscrews, the
important heavy duty cross section of the dovetail plate which resists
bend.

EXAMPLE DOVETAIL SETUPS
After Replacing the HEQ5 or EQ6 with the new Head ($50AUD or $55AUD), the bolt holes allow
the SM78S ($68AUD) & SM78L($85AUD) to be mounted to it. This photo shows
the "D" Side by Side Saddle Plate fitted to the Replacement Head.
I have inserted a 600mm x 80mm x 24mm "D" Tail Heavy Duty Dovetail Plate ($185AUD)
into the "D" Side Saddle ($85AUD). The 600mm Dovetail Plate holds 3 Side
by Side Saddles.
On one end of the 600mm Dovetail Plate ($185AUD) I have mounted a "V" Tail
Side Saddle ($68AUD).
I've inserted into the "V" Side Saddle ($68) a 150mm Small Heavy Duty Dovetail
Plate complete with 140mm Guide Rings ($197AUD). The Rings are sold with the 150mm
Dovetail. Let us know if you require the Rings only.

I've removed the Losmandy Guide Rings and mounted the Losmandy
Camera Mount (DCM2) instead.
I've removed the Camera Mount and "D" to "V" Male to Male Dovetail Plate,
leaving the "V" Tail Side by Side Saddle. This image show the Nylon
Style Guide Rings ($85AUD) mounted on a 20cm long Standard Chinese
"V" Tail Plate ($36AUD). The Nylon Rings adequately hold 2kg of Guide Scope.
Since the 600mm Dovetail ($175AUD) holds 3 Saddles, I've arranged from left,
a "D" Tail Side by Side Saddle (SM78L $85AUD). At center, there is a "V" Tail
Side by side Saddle (SM78S $90AUD) holding a "V" Tail to "D" Tail (Male to Male)
Dovetail Plate ($125AUD), with a Losmandy DCM2 Camera Adaptor. On the right there
is our 140mm Guide Rings with 150mm Small Dovetail ($197AUD) mounted on a
"V" Tail Side by Side Saddle (SM78S $68AUD).
